Warsash Spring Series Race 5
April 13 2003

After relatively gentle breeze for Race 4 it was back to usual for Race 5 of the Spring Series. At the IRC 1 start time of 10.10am we had an Easterly breeze of around 20 knots although this did gradually die throughout the race.

The first leg was a long beat against the tide and it favoured the majority of the fleet that headed hard left up the Lee on Solent shore. Among those that went offshore was the Farr 50 Chernikeeff and as a result she only rounded the windward mark shortly in front of us.

Good clean sailing and excellent speed, especially down the runs with our Series 2000 Runner set, allowed us to stay in touch with the larger boats such as Minx and Kirribilli. We were rewarded with a third on corrected, our best result yet in the series, behind Desperado and Team Tonic.

Roll on the Easter Challenge when the IRC 1 class brake at 1.104 should give us some clear air away from all the bigger, faster boats for a change!
