E1
Business / Penguin Power Winners of the Hamble River Winter
Series Sportsboat Rule
The E1 Business crew had already won the Winter
Series by the last day of racing. Even with two maximum scores,
DNS, OCS or a DSQ the crew were assured of a Series victory.
This however changed nothing in their performance as they ended
the season with two first places. During the whole of the Winter
Series the boat and crew had shown superior speed and performance
over all the other crews in the fleet. With ten first places,
three second places and a third place the result was emphatic,
beating last year's winner (another Beneteau 25) by 21 points.
During the races the boat was found to be in front of all boats
in the fleet. This was on the water and not just on handicap,
even though on handicap the Beneteau 25 is rated the slowest
in the fleet. With the fleet including Melges 24, Bull 7000,
ISIS 21 and J80s, this is no easy task.
The E1 Business boat is 100% Banks-Sails driven. With four years
of Banks helpful development the boat now has excellent speed
in all directions and in all conditions. With the new all-purpose
shape spinnaker supplied by Banks, the boat was even faster
downwind in light airs than ever before.
With next season already in the crew's sights and the Beneteau
25 European Championships in 2003 scheduled for the Hamble,
E1 Business Crew and their Banks sails are looking for further
success.
