Moontiger takes Bowsprit class at the Warsash Spring Series

The Warsash Spring Series this year had a great variety of conditions. Our J105 Moontiger had a new Banks Kevlar main and jib which gave us great upwind speed versus the other J105s in most conditions.

However, some of the other boats in the Bowsprit class were more of a problem. The J110 Another Cunning Plan generally makes very few mistakes and in the light air races was very difficult to beat. The J90 Moose easily planed away from the fleet downwind in any breeze over 20kts. In moderate wind though, Moontiger excelled.

In the 4th and 5th races after postponed starts the race committee combined classes. This made for an extremely crowded start with 50 X332s, Sigma 38s and various IRC classes, joining the bowsprit class on the line. Good upwind speed and pointing ability enabled us to get clear of the main fleet on both occassions and score a 2nd and a 1st.

For the final race the wind was 5-7 gusting to 8, despite a very poor start, after a great run with the big assymmetric kite on the second leg, we managed to come second.

We had a series scoreline of 1 (4) (2) 2 1 2 to win the series by 1 point.
