Aegean Sailing Week 2001 Greece

The Aegean Sailing Week in Greece always attracts excellent competition. Comprising of four offshore race legs, this year's event had a very high quality field that included two IMX 40s, two Mumm 36s, an ILC 40, four IMX 38s and the 50-foot IMS Cruiser/Racer Atalanti.

Consistency was the key to success and this was shown by the Mumm 36 Optimumm (above left) which was first overall, counting 5,3,2,3. Powered exclusively by Banks Sails, Optimumm carries a full suit of Checkmate fore and aft sails and Series 2000 spinnakers. This year they have added a Cuben Fiber Light No.1, Cuben Fiber Medium/Heavy No.1 and Kevlar Main to their wardrobe as well as a 1/2oz AP Spinnaker and they have proved to be consistently quick across a wide range of conditions.

RORC Red Funnel Easter Challenge

The RORC Red Funnel Easter Challenge was held from Cowes over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. Seven of the scheduled eight races were sailed over the three days in conditions that varied from drifting in light breeze on Friday to more than enough wind for everyone on Saturday!

The large fleet was split into six classes comprising IRC 0, 1, 2 and 3 as well as Sportsboats and Farr 40. With such varied wind conditions there were many different boats seen at the front of the fleet in most classes. The exception however was in IRC 3, where the First 31.7 Crewsaver Dickies Yacht Sales (left, above) used their superior boat speed to consistently lead the fleet. Nigel Biggs and the Checkmate Sailing Team (powered exclusively by Banks Sails) sailed a great regatta to score five firsts, one second and one third. At the final prize-giving at Cowes Yacht Haven, the crew were presented with enough Easter eggs to keep them going for quite a few weeks!

Crewsaver Dickies Yacht Sales carries a Checkmate Kevlar Mainsail, Checkmate Kevlar Sport Light No.1, Checkmate Kevlar Medium/Heavy No.1, Checkmate Kevlar No.3 as well as Series 2000 0.5oz and 0.75oz Spinnakers.

To find out how Banks Sails can power you to the front of the fleet call Hugh Myers at the loft on 01489 582444.
