Royal Southern Yacht Club July Regatta

Trevor Pountain's Implacable (Impala 28) took first place in IRC Class 3 in the Royal Southern Yacht Club's July Regatta.

This season's third Regatta in the popular central Solent Series, attracted around 100 boats over the weekend of 21/22 July. Racing in light southwesterly breezes all weekend, Implacable was locked in a close battle with Jonathan Butler's Peanut (modified Impala 28), the current IRC Class 3 National Champion.

Race 1 on Saturday morning went to Peanut, with Implacable managing to finish in second place after an indifferent start. In the afternoon the result was decided by checking the course for the Class 2 and 3 start. Having spotted the course change, Peanut hesitated for a while and followed the Class 2 boats (and the rest of Class 3) towards Quinnell, the windward mark for Class 0 and Class 1. Implacable rounded West Knoll on her own and was able to stay ahead of the lower-rated Peanut and save her time.

On Sunday morning Peanut again took the first race, while Implacable dropped to third, never recovering from being buried by a Farr 40 from a different regatta that came through the start line at just the wrong time. In the afternoon's Race 4 Implacable led the Class from start to finish, and with a record of 2,1,3,1 managed to take the class overall by one point.
