2011 Myth of Malham Race

RORC Success for Banks Sails and Scarlett Oyster in the Wild and Windy Myth of Malham Race (around Eddystone Lighthouse)

Third overall was Ross Appleby's 24 year old Oyster Lightwave 48, Scarlet Oyster, and the winner of IRC Two. Ross was delighted with the result having pushed this old design very hard to achieve a podium place.

"As we left the Solent we could tell by the boats around us that we were doing well. We got headed quite early and we changed our plan by heading into Lyme Bay. We were a bit anxious about the move in case the breeze died on us however, the move really paid off." explained Ross "It was a ballistic run back from the Eddystone with gusts of over 35 knots off Portland. We managed to keep the rig on top of the boat but the kite had other ideas blowing up in one big gust and we ran right over it and then broke the pole! We used our jockey-pole on our No. 3 headsail, which was not as fast but that did mean we could sail straight down the rhumb line in control and we still managed twenty knots on the surf."

Dear Daryl

The new sails you made are great, this weekend saw us use them in anger for the first time, due to various issues previously (non-of them sail wise).
Close reaching up to Alderney saw us out strip the other First 211, although a later nav error negated the lead.
Then the sail home close hauled for 4 hours gave plenty of time to play with car positions etc, while she sat in the groove.

Thanks a lot.

Firefly is a Sadler 290 that we have recently designed and manufactured in the UK a set of Racing C-Laminate sails for.  Jeremy Kaye the proud owner of Firefly makes the following comment:

Just a note to say how pleased I am now with the sails I bought from Banks. In particular the no 2 jib, it is much more versatile and easier to handle than the big genoa that I have taken the big one off permanently and will get my IRC based on the no2. The spinnaker is also great now that I have it up and running.

Many thanks for your good advice.

Dear Daryl

Just a short note to say thanks for the sails, they are performing well, they have transformed the Sotally Tober.  Still getting used to the trimming positions and still think there is more to come. only problem is getting the time to go and experiment and sail.  First Race will be inter island on the 26th June so hopefully we'll get a good result.

Thanks to you and all your team for sails.

Their performance is outstanding!

Daryl,

Further to our chat at the London Boat Show I have to put on record how immensely pleased I am with the new sails you provided me with last year.
Their performance is outstanding and during a run from Neiuwpoort  & Ramsgate they knocked off an hour on our scheduled time. They set exceptionally well and in light airs they are a dream, even with two reefs in they still perform perfectly.
It has restored an older boat back to pleasurable and exciting sailing.

Regards
Peter Stone – Seawolf 30

Cowes Week 2009 Winner

Ben Goodland posts a magnificent set of results to convincingly win the multihull class in this year's Cowes Regatta.

Ben attributes his speed to the D4 Carbon mainsail built by Banks Sails in 2006, despite trying other sailmakers Ben saw the light and sailed the complete regatta using his 3 year old mainsail, proof that Banks Sails are superior FAST and DURABLE.

Ben's more recent purchase was a replacement Carbon Membrane jib supplied this year, helping him with superior height and complementing our 3 year old D4 mainsail nicely.

Team G.O.S.H. and the 3 peaks race

Talisman's First 305

logo"Having received a totally new set of sails provided by Banks Sails I was very impressed with the obvious high quality, attention to detail was flawless and the construction, whilst light, was seemingly bullet proof. The key to our success was the black Assymetric spinnaker. Its shape and structure enabled us to fly it in situations where all of the other boats around were still under normal headsail. It was also superb in the very light winds, especially when flown with the very light sheet as recommended.

The advice on IRC Ratings and subsequent performance was equally as impressive and fundamental to Team GOSH being ranked 2nd IRC team in the 2009 Three Peaks Yacht Race on their first outing.

The section of the race where the winds were the lightest was from Caernarfon to Whitehaven where we were the second fastest yacht over the water, beating several J’s (92, 105, 109, 120 and 122), a brand new Beneteau First 50, a 40.7 an A35, Reflex 38, HOD35 etc. Not bad for a 22 year old 31ft cruiser!

The quality of the sails was only surpassed by the customer service, advice and support given by Daryl and all at Banks Sails . It was a daunting task to equip the newly purchased boat with a quiver of sails that would deliver the performance and longevity that we required. We listened to the advice given and not once did we regret this, he and the team at Banks Sails made the whole process a pleasure.

I would avidly recommend Bank Sails in the future and thank everyone for their support."

GREEN Banks

Green Bank

Banks sails in conjunction with Reefer sails are actively recycling our old and used sails, and off cuts of fabric. On a monthly basis Reefer collect from Banks Sails our customers thrown away sails or useable offcuts, which they then re-cycle into various products.

GREEN Banks also support the local community and schools. We do this in many ways with donations of fabric offcuts to various local schools for their arts and crafts projects. Banks Sails do not receive any payments for this, its our way to re-cycle old sails for the benefit of the environment/our children/our future...

Banks sail "a beauty"

Finally, finally I could hoist my new mains on Saturday at 20:00. What a beauty! I love every detail of it. I had an envious onlooker on the quay who commented that it looked much better than his new mains! Had my first sail yesterday, unfortunately with very light winds, but the boat did better with the new mains and a 22 m2 high aspect than with the old rig and a 43 m2 genoa.

Banks delighted to report another "excellent" spinnaker

Gareth Thomas, owner of J120 Jalfrezi, recently got in touch to pass on his thoughts on a recent Banks spinnaker:

Hi Daryl… I didn’t give you a report on the EXCELLENT Code 0… I am REALLY pleased.

Gareth received a Checkmate Code 0 spinnaker in June 2008.  Ordered in late May this sail was wholly designed and built in the UK to a very short delivery schedule (less than 3 weeks), enabling Gareth to leave his home port on time to make the start of this year’s grueling 2 Handed BMW Round Ireland yacht race 2008.
