Flying Dutchman German National Championship success

Germany has the strongest domestic Flying Dutchman fleet in existence and we are therefore very pleased to confirm that Kai Uwe Ludtke won the recent German Championship using Banks Sails from our loft here in the UK.

Our German agents, Heino Haase Segel, have been working hard alongside sail designer (and FD sailor, shown in pic #3 testing his own designs) Hugh Myers to penetrate the German market and it looks like their efforts are beginning to be rewarded!

For the forthcoming European Championship (June 26th - July 1st) Kai Uwe will be using new Banks Sails including a prototype spinnaker.

For details of our winning Flying Dutchman designs contact Hugh Myers at the loft.

Grand Soleil 34.1

Grand Soleil's new 34.1 is due to arrive in Britain at the end of June. From the drawing board of Alessandro Vismara, the design has already scored some great results in Germany.

The first British boat, for Mr K Sansome, will be powered by Banks Sails. His inventory will comprise a Checkmate Pentex Mainsail, AP No.1 and No.3 combined with a Series 2000 AP Spinnaker.

Richard Baldwin of International Yachts in Hamble, who will be displaying the 34.1 at this year's Southampton Boat Show, said, "I am looking forward to realising the racing potential of the boat and I'm sure that Banks Sails will help!"

RORC Commodore chooses Banks - again!

On Sunday 5 March 2000, RORC Commodore Peter Rutter launched the latest in his long line of Banks-powered yachts called Quokka at the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble (pic #4).

The new Quokka is an IRM 9m level rater from the drawing board of Ker Associates and built by Custom Eyes Composites, and is one of the first IRM yachts to hit the water.

All the sails are constructed from Contender sailcloth and the spinnaker is unusual in that it is made from a silicon-coated fabric to prevent water absorption aboard what will inevitably be a very wet boat! The mainsail also features a much larger roach than a standard IRC/IMS configuration.
