Bank of Valletta Spring Series

This is the first year with a full set of Banks sails for Cuore Sportivo. The first Series of 2000 organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club was the Spring Series, sponsored by Bank of Valletta plc. The series was made up of three round-the-can races and a long-distance race of 35 nautical miles starting from the RMYC and going around the Island of Comino.

Cuore Sportivo came first in all three round-the-can races, sometimes beating bigger boats such as three J92s across the line. For yesterday's long-distance race, held under Force 3 variable winds, Cuore Sportivo came home first over the line, beating the whole fleet of 13+ boats, which included two J92s, a Catalina 38 OD, a First 45f5, another Beneteau 25 and many others. The race started at 1000hrs and we crossed the finish line at 1620hrs.

The new Banks Spi and light No.1 made all the difference throughout the whole series. The new No.1 is very easy to set with minimum effort. As for the Spi, no comment - just some tension on the cunningham and Cuore Sportivo was in the groove.

ps. The only other comment I could make is that the other local Beneteau 25 (Alfred Manduca, Beneteau Agent) has just ordered a new set of sails to try and compete against mine!

Congrats on an excellent set of sails.

Regards from sunny Malta,
Georges Bonello DuPuis,
Cuore Sportivo.
