VM Materiaux (Open 50)

Banks Sails in Vendee Globe Race

As competitors in the Vendee Globe head towards the finish it was very pleasing to see the complimentary comments in the France column of March's Seahorse magazine from Patrice Carpentier.

He is racing the Thompson-designed Open 50 (ex-Aqua Corum) which has been renamed VM Materiaux for the race. Talking about flying his Banks Asymmetric spinnaker in the Southern Ocean he writes

"To begin with I was playing in the south mostly under genoa, because when you sail in these latitudes you are cautious. But if I wanted to stay with Voila.fr I had to bring more sail and the spinnaker came back on deck.... I used it longer than in the Trade Winds. I set it when the wind dropped under 19/20 and I dropped it when it exceeded 25kt. I wanted to be cautious because the brave white Bruce Banks balloon is my only fractional spinnaker. About 30 drops sine Les Sables d'Olonne and 20 gybes, the old Monsieur Banks remains immaculate."

Banks Sails - whether it's racing in the Southern Ocean or a Sunday afternoon cruise we won't let you down.
